SUMMARY:Support for Memory Loss Caregivers
DESCRIPTION:A local group for those with loved ones impacted by dementia or Alzheimer’s\nIf you are a family member or friend of someone with memory loss and are seeking ways to understand and support a loved one\, our group can help. Led by Alzheimer’s Association qualified facilitators\, we offer a confidential space to share personal stories and offer strategies for improved communication with your loved one. We create a safe space for you to feel heard\, to help cope with any ongoing challenges and to know you are not alone. \nWhether you are a spouse\, friend or adult child near or far\, this group is here to support everyone impacted by a loved one’s dementia. \nAlzheimer’s Association support groups provide the following resources:  \n\nEmotional\, educational and social support for family and friends of individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and other related dementias.\nMethods and skills to meet new challenges.\nEncouragement and support for caregivers to maintain their own personal\, physical and emotional health\, in order to optimally care for their loved one with dementia.\nEmpathy and guidance through the grief process. Grieving for a loved one with dementia often begins long before the person passes away. It’s a unique mourning process that not everyone has experienced or understands. Many people have complex feelings of guilt\, relief\, shock\, numbness\, anger or resentment. All of these feelings are normal and can be discussed with other members of your community who are facing similar challenges in the safe space created in an Alzheimer’s Association support group.\n\nDrawing upon nearly 25 years of professional Assisted Living Administrator experience\, as well as formal training through the Alzheimer’s Association\, Director of Whitcomb Terrace\, Maggie Gerardi\, will lead this monthly group. \nPlease confirm your attendance with Maggie at 970.544.1531 at least 24-hours in advance. Please feel free to connect with her if you have any questions or wish to learn more about this group. To learn more about Whitcomb Terrace\, visit their webpage. \n
