Bio
Dr. Mary Harris is a pediatrician who became part of Aspen Valley Health’s Primary Care team in 2026. She is certified by and a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. As a physician she focuses on disease prevention and uses evidence-based tools, including vaccines, to promote health and wellness.
After moving to the Roaring Fork Valley in 2014, Dr. Harris undertook additional training in pediatric psychiatry at Children’s Hospital Colorado to address the lack of options her young patients had in finding qualified pediatric psychologists in western Colorado. She is able to work with children needing mental health support and will make referrals when they need more advanced treatment. Dr. Harris studied medicine at Boston University School of Medicine. She completed her residency in pediatric medicine in 2006 at Baylor College of Medicine. She then spent nine years working in the emergency department at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston as a “GEM,” or generalist in emergency medicine. She transitioned to pediatric primary care because she wanted to help patients prevent bad outcomes instead of treating them in the emergency room.
Dr. Harris is literally living her childhood dream by practicing medicine and raising a family in the Roaring Fork Valley. As an 11-year-old girl she decided that she was going to grow up to be—to put it in her own words—“a race car-driving, doctor mommy who lived near a ski resort.” In 2009, she became a race car driver in the 24 Hours of Lemons, an established team race that limits the price of its “race cars” to $500, gently mocking the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans race in France. In 2013 she had her first child and soon after set about fulfilling the rest of her dream. Now she practices medicine at Aspen Valley Health Primary Care, and skis and hikes regularly. She loves living in a place where she can smell nature all around, particularly in those moments just before a rainstorm.
