Dr. James Farrell is a primary care physician and hospitalist who joined Aspen Valley Health in 2025. Prior to Aspen, Dr. Farrell spent four years practicing at two hospitals run by the U.S. Air Force—David Grant USAF Medical Center in California, and the Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson Hospital, also known as the 673rd Medical Group, in Alaska. Dr. Farrell was educated in Tennessee, first as an undergraduate at Tennessee Tech and then as a medical student at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. He earned his Doctor of Medicine in 2017, and completed his residency in internal medicine in 2020 at the San Antonio Uniformed Services Health Education Consortium, a Texas-based collaborative that provides medical education and training for military health professionals. Dr. Farrell is board certified in internal medicine. He is the first member of his large southern family to become a physician. He enjoys rock climbing, winter snow sports and tennis, all of which are in abundance in the Roaring Fork Valley. Dr. Farrell was drawn to work at Aspen Valley Health by the opportunity to practice in a community that prioritizes personal health and an active outdoor lifestyle.
