As the newest clinic in Aspen Valley Health’s Center for Medical Care, Aspen Valley Primary Care offers a friendly, welcoming team, including four physicians — Drs. Kelly and Karen Locke, Michael Plachta and internets Dr. Edward Wiese — a nurse care coordinator, a behavioral health specialist, five medical assistants and three clinic coordinators. The clinic goes beyond the traditional definition of primary care, with a holistic focus on whole patient health. Patients can connect with a specialist, learn about dietary and exercise plans, talk with a social worker, or arrange transportation to and from their appointment.

The clinic celebrated its one-year anniversary in July of 2020. “I think we’ve done a nice job building up the practice in the last year,” said Dr. Karen Locke. “Our goal was to expand our services, and we’ve been able to do that by joining with Aspen Valley Health.”

The collaboration between Aspen Valley Primary Care and AVH offers patients an entire team of medical professionals working on their behalf. Care Coordinator Kelly Higdon, a registered nurse, helps effectively navigate the healthcare system while Behavioral Specialist Michelle Miscione, a licensed social worker, assists patients to help them overcome personal challenges that affect their healthcare.

Every member of the family is welcome at Aspen Valley Primary Care, where we focus on providing comprehensive medical attention for adults and children, including wellness services, disease management and treatment of acute and chronic illness. Primary care providers are often a patient’s first line of defense, screening for cancer, monitoring year-over-year personal health trends, and managing family health as a whole.
