BIO

Dr. Nathan McDonald is an emergency medicine physician who began practicing at Aspen Valley Health in 2023. Dr. McDonald studied medicine at the University of Arizona, and completed his emergency medicine residency at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. He then completed a fellowship in Emergency Department Quality and Management through Harvard Medical Faculty Physicians at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. He is board-certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine. Dr. McDonald is committed to delivering the best care to patients, not only at the bedside but also through continuous quality improvement of emergency department operations. Prior to joining the team at Aspen Valley Health, he earned a Master of Clinical Service Operations at Harvard Medical School. Dr. McDonald has co-authored multiple papers published in peer-reviewed medical journals. He currently serves as the secretary on Aspen Valley Health’s Medical Executive Committee. He has volunteered for the Medical Justice Alliance, serving as a pro bono expert medical witness. Dr. McDonald has practiced emergency medicine in a variety of settings, from tertiary care, inner-city hospitals to stand-alone emergency rooms. He was drawn to Aspen Valley Health because it is a critical-access hospital that is strongly rooted in the community it serves, giving him the opportunity to care for friends, neighbors, visitors and the people who make the Roaring Fork Valley an amazing place to live. He particularly appreciates the serendipitous meet-ups that happen walking through town, riding the chairlift or recreating in the outdoor playground that surrounds us.
